The 1980's power pop band's biggest hit. Part of Riffraf's "Lost Gems" series.

"n November of 1980, The Producers began recording their first album, with Tom Werman in the producers chair. The album is considered a power pop classic. The first single set the tone. "What She Does To Me" had a great hook, tight harmonies and guitars that Werman pushed way up front.

The single climbed to #61 on the Billboard Hot 100, then stalled. Curiously, the record company decided to make video's for "What's He Got" and "Certain Kind of Girl, but not the album's lead single. Those songs, plus 'I Love Lucy" and "Boys Say When/Girls Say Why", make the album one of the genre's must-haves...

Head over to RiffRaf for the rest. We'd love to have you.

They're playing soon in New Orleans. Check out the rehearsal vid snippets on their facebook page. What an awesome band.

I ran spot light for them at a gig in Fort Worth in December of 84. I will never forget the moment they played She Sheila... It was incredible. Great live band. I just read somewhere that Wayne is driving a taxi in Atlanta. Seems unjust.

Don't know if it was done deliberately or by chance, but the British band XTC used this same guitar intro for their 1989 song "The Mayor of Simpleton."

I have this album on vinyl and I don't have a turntable anymore. Thought this song was just stuck in my memory. Thank you for bringing it back!

The bald guy held them back. I mean, this was the new wave era. On the cusp of the 80s, bands needed a lot of hair. In the absence of hair, he should have shaved it bald and/or put a hat on. Instead, they looked like three brothers with their father.

Man is that a lost memory. DID YOU KNOW, that at the Lakewood fairgrounds that the building were made into SOUND STUDIOS, and that KANSAS recorded 3 albums there? I spent 2 summers around that and was there when they recorded DUST IN THE WIND & WAYWARD SON. The amphitheater there is acoustically BAD. Verizon up in Gwinnett is same config but is acoustically excellent. Now I will have to dig up something on those mystery bands. NASHVILLE PUSSY is Atlanta based, they rock! PLAYBOY BAND OF YEAR.
