The movie classic that became a Broadway sensation now becomes a movie musical event.

Mel Brooks is bringing The Producers, one of the most honored musicals in the history of the American theater, to the motion picture screen as a sparkling, feature-length musical comedy. The record-breaking Tony Award-winning hit (based on Mel Brooks' seminal 1968 motion picture comedy) received 15 nominations and won a record-breaking 12 awards, including Best Musical, Best Director and Choreographer, and Best Actor.

Two-time Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick return to their celebrated roles as Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, a scheming theatrical producer and his mousy CPA who hit upon the perfect plan to embezzle a fortune: raise far more money than you need to produce a sure-fire Broadway flop and then (since no one will expect anything back), Max and Leo can pocket the difference. To do this, they need the ultimate bad play, which they find in the musical Springtime for Hitler. Their plans come to naught and the duo are taken completely by surprise when their new production is hailed as a toast-of-the-town hit. Will Ferrell also brings his spot-on comic talents to the role of Franz Liebkind, the neo-Nazi playwright (and pigeon fancier) responsible for penning the "worst play ever written."

You have a point - Zero was a force, even more so than Nathan Lane. And I prefer Gene Wilder to Matthew Broderick as the schlumpy accountant. One area where I preferred the movie musical was in the choice for Hitler. Wallace Shawn was fine, but the concept of a burned out hippie named "L.S.D." to play Der Fuehrer I don't think plays as well today as it did in 1968. And I definitely prefer Uma Thurman over Lee Meredith as Ulla! I loved both Kenny Mars and Will Ferrell as Franz Liebkind,

I agree that the songs in this film are largely excellent, but honestly they are all the later film has. Nothing can match the original performances by Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, they gave a life to the characters that the overly emoted theater style performances of the sequel couldn't match. The humor is also much stronger, focused, and clever in the original. Take a shot at every unimaginative gay joke they make in the 2005 remake and you'll die of alcohol poisoning before the credits roll.

That's right, after looking into it, it also seems while he may have wanted to sing in the Lion King, his singing voice didn't rather suit the character

that is strange

The only thing I can think is that maybe his singing voice wasn't exactly what they imagined for Simba...that happens sometimes, when an actor actually has a good singing voice, and his/her speaking voice is right for the character, but the director/casting director/whomever doesn't think the singing voice is quite how they want the character to sound...
