I remember seeing David in concert when I was 12 or 13 back in the 70s. This has always been my favorite song of his...and I can still remember the white jumpsuit with long fringe that he wore for that concert! And when he performed this song, like in this video, when he sings the 'YEAAAAAH".....he turned to face the audience with his legs apart......*sigh*....heaven. Its funny that I remember this coz sometimes I can't even remember if I ate breakfast!!!

I agree!! I saw him perform this song in August 1971 and it was incredible!! I can still remember him saying "it was off their new album and was going to be released in a few weeks". And he intoduced this song saying how "he loved this song and it was a favorite of his." And he did that smooth "yeah" just like here...the best part!! I always loved how he loved this song!! That day was Pure Magic 4 me and I 'll never forget Summer Day!! ♥

I think this is the single best song in their catalog (and there are a LOT of brilliant pop tunes..beautifully written and produced). Add to that the fact that David Cassidy also loves this song- so much so he even re-recorded it on a solo album and still performs it today) HIS love of the song even at the time comes thru in the video, and I remember seeing him perform it in person around 2001 or 2002 he introduced the song as.."Where were YOU in the summer of 1971?"..Pure Magic
