Such a great number! I saw it on Broadway (yes, I'm that old) with the great Carol Haney. It was this show that Shirley MaLaine went on as Haney's understudy and became a major star.

I'm curious: what exactly is the purpose of this scene? I realize it's a musical, but since when does a union meeting have choreographed song and dance entertainment? My late father was a pipefitter, and I have no doubt that the alcohol flowed freely at those meetings, yet he never mentioned musical numbers.Next,Gladys works as part of the corporate staff in the office, so why in the world would SHE even be attending the union meeting, much less providing the entertainment for it? That makes no sense.Note: I'm not being critical of the performances, just the logic (or lack therof) for this scene to even be in the movie/play in the first place.Any explanations would be sincerely appreciated.

Bob Fosse's first masterpiece. There would be many more.

I so love this! It is one of my favorite numbers from any musical. What do they call those songs that get stuck in your head and play over and over and over? Ear worms, maybe? Whatever, this is that! Gosh, I wish I could move like that! I'm not a dancer, so I've no idea of the difficulty of this number, but it is wicked cool. This and the barn raising scene from 7 Brides for 7 Brothers are my go to bits when I'm feeling down. Makes me smile every time! I want this song for my ringtones!

We did this musical at our school this year, and our dancers learned every single step of this routine. Only we had five instead of three. Watching them was a fun rehearsal.
