No country can be completely guilt free about their past so saying that another country sucks because they did more bad stuff then them in the past is dumb.

This song isn't necessarily anti-American, so don't just draw conclusions. The song is about, "The millions of people who have had their history written for them, and how they felt they couldn't escape it. It's about being told what to do, about being told what to believe in- which is, in a nutshell, the story of America's history." That was said by Matt O'Keefe, guitarist for the band.

Both song and video somehow feel like a slower version of the Big Bang Theory intro... :D

As a former Marine, who served in Afghanistan, and saw what ISIS did to Syria, Egypt, and Iraq (have you ever seen a beheading and religious genocide before? Or 1,000 students face down in a ditch and shot in the back of the head?), and having done what I felt I had to do for the Afghani and Iraqi people to have a better place to live and have kids, to see little girls allowed to go to schools, and have clean accessible water, and to stop these atrocities to humans, and protect humanity as a whole, to sacrifice being with my families on birthdays, and Thanksgiving and Christmas, and to miss out on graduations and postpone my own for something I considered higher, and having made countless failed attempts at long distance relationships... to then come home to a university and be ostracized, disrespected, demonized and condemned by little boys and girls who've never left home, never *attempted* to make the world a better place (and I'm talking something of substance, not keyboard bashing), and be completely ignorant of what goes on outside the US, walk on the flag, burn it, riot, and hate their home... it's hard not to be offended. Yes, pledge allegiance. You "pledge allegiance to the flag and to the republic for which it stands" ....in other words, you commit yourself to the ideals of the freedoms of the constitution, and the flag is the outward symbol of those freedoms. You are NEVER asked to pledge allegiance to the United States government and it was careful to phrase it that way. It just pains me to sacrifice, watch my friends bleed, and not come home alive, watch Middle Eastern boys and girls get hacked to pieces by truly brainwashed youths and gangs with machetes and meat cleavers... and we're the bastards?! Value what you have. Value the nation. It's your home. Value the constitution and your liberties. You don't need to be committed to the government. But for fuck's sake, you don't know how good you have it! Go to Syria, and if you ever can come back alive, let me know what you think of this place then. You have every right to not agree or hate me... I'm not a hypocrite. It's your right to opine as you will. But I can lay my head down at night knowing there's a girl who may still have to go to sleep on a dirt floor, but at least she has a school now, and some clean water, and if I had to kill a man who wanted to cut her hands or head off because she dared speak her voice... then so be it. She, and many like her, are safe because of it. You're self-righteous attitude would've killed her instead. Either one be killed is unfortunate. No one wishes for it. But sometimes *it is* needed. And sometimes a "weed needs to be pulled from the garden," so to speak. I will never be ashamed of that, and I will sleep peacefully in my grave when my time comes.

Any real Orwells fan knows that Mario probably just came up with these lyrics and was like "damn these sound cool as shit". He wasn't trying to send a "secret message" to anyone.

We do not inherit this planet from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.
