Bowser is sick of being possessed or pushed aside. Even though it seemed that Antasma had no intentions of betraying him, as evidenced by the nightmare's shock at the betrayal, the koopa king decided that he couldn't take that chance.

I will have to admit since the first Paper Mario this is probably the most climatic and dramatic battle with Bowser in history.  Though this one left more of an impact because in Paper Mario you could see the final battle happening with Bowser in the end.  Here not so much.  They give you a main antagonist who you think is going to be the main enemy and is going to betray Bowser.  You didn't expect it to be the other way around.  What's even darker is the fact that Bowser now has a stone that can connect dimensions.  Yes you heard me right dimensions.  The Dream World is basically an alternate dimension of the Mushroom World hence why Pi'illo Kingdom locations are similar yet different in the Dream World.  Do you think Bowser would just stop with the Mushroom World and Pi'illo Island?  No.  He would use that power to create dimensional rifts to create nightmares and send them to other universes.  He would become a threat on par with Dimentio and to think Bowser, the lowest grade villain in the Mario library.  The butt of many jokes and the stereotypical jerk that just tries to ruin the hero's day has done the unthinkable.  He has become a potential threat to the world, the universe and possibly even all worlds and universes.  Bowser went and did the unthinkable.  Thanks Alpha Dream.  You made Bowser into the great and powerful evil king he was meant to be.  I will never look at him the same way again after this game.

Bowser wasn't playing around in this game.After being tossed aside or possessed by other villains like Cackletta, the X-Nauts, Shadow Queen, Fawful, Count Bleck, Dimentio and the Shroobs, he wasn't gonna get 1-upped again cause no doubt, Antasma would've betrayed him too eventually.
