This is the first cover. The Outsiders recorded it first. But this is VERY good!

It's like Amen Corner stripped out every interesting bit of the record for their version. I never liked the song until I heard the US versions.

Wow! I always thought Amen Corner's was the best cover of this song until I heard this! Thank you!

MGM released 45s in sequential order. This 45 was not released until July, 1967. Not in / during 1966.The Outsiders, from Cleveland, recorded the song before anyone else.

Outsiders, Models, American Breed and Amen Corner in that chronological order.

There is some 60s psycadelia her, typical of the era but I much prefer Amen Corner's cover which was a big hit in the UK.

i got this version on a CD that deals with female garage bands(and i believe is the one you mentioned in your description).this version should been a ''hot 100'' hit(or at least a ''under the hot 100'' hit).awesome version.

My understanding is that this was a group comprised of actual models, hence the group's name.

it has a "flirtations-nothin but a heartache" feel to it.

It really is interesting to hear several different versions of the same song and see who had a hit with the song and who didn't. Makes me wonder how many songs fall into this category. How many versions of Louie, Louie are there? How many versions of Heart and Soul? How many versions of Happy Birthday to You? (LOL) And so on.

The production is better on this one though. It's so unique,

they sound like a take off of the what four, all unison vocals, lots of fuzz-tone

From what I understand, one of the singers in this group was Janice Pennington, who later went on to The Price is Right.

Sorry guys. In my humble opinion this doesn't compare to Amen Corner's with Andy Fairweather-Lowe on lead vocals.

@artlongjr I should also point out that the Velvets and the Mothers were also MGM artists (on their Verve subsidiary).
