@imshippyupup - final means the last. authority is an expert or a person in charge.

I know how to manipulate the online translators pretty well, but cannot for the life of me get the German word Allest. Without its translation the meaning is awkward to say the least. I have the gist of what Stephen's saying but that damn word is confounding me. Anybody know German? Or what that word means? Thanks

I really like this song even though it's one of the "kitschy" ones on the album. The chorus in German or whatever is just great. To me it evokes a bunch of loggers.

But the author of a work is not the final authority on its meaning.

I stand corrected, cover myself in ashes and bow my head in shame.

Godot is not God. Beckett said so. Your comparison is thus faulty.

For musicians: the chords seem to be the following (I use parentheses to indicate the on-and-off suspension of the major chord): Intro: D (sus4) 3x G D F C Everything is one... Am C G D (sus4) All the world is... G D F C All the world is turning... Am C G D Everyone's awaiting... Em Em/B Dsus4 A Stop mumbling... C C/G D Dsus4 Put down the book... And repeat through the remaining verses, with G D F C serving as the backdrop to the final lines ("Where can that Sandy be?")

Brilliant, Stephin! "Sandy" seems to substitute for "Santa" much as "Godot" substitutes for "God" in Becket's "Waiting for Godot." The verse in German is so well placed and sung by that chorus of garrulous male voices, it's hard not to sing along. Is anyone else writing this creatively today?

does he sing "Everyones awaiting Sandy"?
