Jeremy Jordan (Jimmy Collins) performs "The Love I Meant to Say" in Season 2 Episode 14 (The Phenomenon) of NBC's hit series, SMASH.

He performs this song for his best friend and brother (Kyle Bishop) that got hit by a car and died.

This is the most beautiful and heartfelt song i ever listened to and whoever wrote this should be extremely proud because this is truly beautiful.

-------LYRICS--------

Over, I can't believe it's over

I can't believe the love I left

To show some other day

Listen, I hope that you can hear me

As I kneel down and pray

With the love I meant to say

Shadows, you took away the shadows

Before your life was black and white

Though tonight the room's gone gray

Golden, all the love you gave was golden

Gold that I would gladly pay,

To show the love I meant to say

Oh, music you made me hear, such music

Without you here to guide me,

I feel as though I'll fly away

Sorry, that's the word I want to sing to you

The other word is stay

To hear the love I meant to say

Where does everyone start crying? For me, it's "all the love you gave was golden." Such a beautiful song, I cry so much.

Here I am. Watching old SMASH videos and I bump into this one. I remember this was what Jimmy decided to sing for Kyle. I didn't remember how emotional it was. A year and a half later, Jeremy Jordan has made me cry and feel Kyle's loss once again. That is how great an actor he is. #IMissSMASH

This song gets me every single time. I found out later that he sang this live, a la Les Miserables the Movie. He wanted to convey the emotion without doing retakes. Smashing job. No pun intended. Miss you Smash!

I love ALL the songs in Hit List and Bombshell. Everything about Smash was wonderful that's why I bought the DVD's and all the CD's!

This is the only HitList song I liked. I think it's cause it was the only one written by Marc & Scott (the original writes if season 1 + Bombshell)

My friend died in a car accident almost exactly a month after this. She was one of those people who was larger than life. People were drawn to her by her openness, laughter, and the amazing love she poured out. I was gone when she died, but this song helped me deal with that regret more than i can possibly say.
