Released in 1991, 12 years after "My Sharona", this rare video was actually The Knack's second highest charting hit in the U.S. (#9 - Mainstream Rock Tracks chart) behind "My Sharona", which was #1 for six weeks in 1979. "Good Girls Don't" reached #11 and "Baby Talks Dirty" #38. I'm sure many of you wise guys never even knew The Knack had a second hit, but their debut album "Get The Knack" was at #1 for six weeks and was one of the fastest selling debut albums of all time, so you know it must have had some good songs on it, and it most certainly does. This song is from the album "Serious Fun" (1991) which is also worth checking out, as is "Round Trip" (1981), "Zoom" (1998), "Normal As The Next Guy" (2001) and their initial follow up to "Get The Knack", "But The Little Girls Understand" (1980).

Allright! Baby!

One shot, ecstasy

Funk house fever got a hold on me

Big bang, bedroom scene

Shakedown cruise on a mean machine

I'm a rocket o'love, take me

I'm a rocket o'love, ride

I'm a rocket o'love

Oh yeah! Now listen...

So fine, shake it down

Bring your thing down to Obeah town

Shotgun, shing-a-ling

One, two, one two three, hey!!

I'm a rocket o'love, take me

I'm a rocket o'love, ride

I'm a rocket o'love

Well, I'm a driver, and I'm a raver

And I'm a flamer, yes I'm the savior

Ooh, ooh, and I'm a diver, yeah!, and I'm a craver

Oh, baby, baby, look at me, I'm on fire!

I'm a rocket o'love, take me

I'm a rocket o'love, ride

I'm a rocket o'love

Ride on the rocket o'love!

Doug Feiger was balls out as good a frontman as there ever was (except for Freddie Mercury).

Being from Seattle i'm sad to say "Grunge" killed real rock! They all thought they were changing the world ( music wise) when in fact they were used buy the system to better the bottom line and fleece their pockets and now it's all completely fucked up!The record labels had their years and then shot themselves in the foot by exploiting whatever they could , now they are barely hanging on by the crap they ram down kids mouths ......

Pretty funny to see the Knack doing the '90s hair band thing. Good song though.

FRIDAY NIGHT SESSIONS

*FNS Late Night Guitar Rock with DJ **+Johnny Zed* Bet some of you thought that I'd follow up with the Knack's *My Sharona* after that last track... same backbeat, right? Well, here's *The Knack* all right, but instead, they're riding their almost forgotten hit *Rocket O' Love*#fnslatenight #theknack #guitarrock #djjohnnyzed The Knack - Rocket O'Love

yup, I noticed that too.... I was not aware of the crazy elephant song back in 91 when rocket o love came out, but heard it for the first time when I started listening to oldies in mid-2000s.... that Is the FIRST thing I thought of... doesn't this sound like that comeback hit the Knack had? glad to see someone else noticed that resemblance.. lol

Yeah, true. But even though I was a drummer myself, even after tons of watches I was still too busy watching the chick to focus on some new drummer's hair. :-)

No worries, bro! Besides, you should've been able to tell; Torpey not only has more hair, he was sporting a bitchen' mullet back in those days!

You're right. Well, ok, he got me. That's the best hair fakeout I've seen since Gregg Bissonette when he was with David Lee Roth. In one of the pics from the shoot Billy says "I had hair then", but I still think he might have added some in front for the shoot because he had less in the '86 Ace Frehley pics than in these 91 pics. Great drummer whatever.

It's Billy Ward. His webpage has a picture of him from the video shoot...

Thank you. I stand corrected. From Torpey's wiki page “1987, ...Bobby Columby approached me and asked me if I was available to do some studio work. Columby was producing a couple tracks for The Knack, and their original drummer had just left the band. I loved playing with The Knack but when Billy (of Mr. Big) approached me I jumped at the chance." Torpey recorded with Mr. Big in 1989. Ward is credited on the album, but this is Torpey in the video. So perhaps this video was made in 1987-1988?

Billy Ward is credited with drums on the album. Prior to "Serious Fun", Torpey was touring with The Knack, following a brief period of all original members. I don't believe Torpey recorded with the band, and he was touring with Mr. Big at the time of this album's release. Of worthy note, Bruce did record some of the songs on "Zoom", as well as the Badfinger tribute.

Flamer. I prefer to think of it as "rocket lyrics" (Flamer? Rocket? Get it?) rather than in the conventional sense.
