I repeat: Dave Davies is a VERY under-rated guitarist.

All of these early British bands were listening to American Blues...same influences, same blues guys playing in England, they were all hearing it on the radio. This song was written by American Kokomo Arnold, covered by Elvis (those are slightly different versions/lyrics though). The Kinks improved it, imo, better than Elvis's version. The Stones 1st few albums were virtually all covers & blues covers, Beatles, Yardbirds, etc all doing them at the same time. Stones had a popularity edge > Kinks

Better than the Stones, whom I love, but the Kinks are grittier.

Thanks for posting this early Kinks recording. I think it has a classic Kinks sound and I very much like Dave singing the first half of the song.

I'd give anything to go back to the 60's for one day to experience it again.

God,I love this song. It's one of those songs that a band could jam and improvise on for an hour, it must be a total blast to play.God save the Kinks!

@urizzle7 Have to agree. There is a Youtube video of the Kinks playing the Beat Room probably New Year's Eve 1964, and the audience danced - the girl wearing the beret is very "into" it, nobody was paying her to be eye candy - kinda neat to see.
