Stereo of Lies by The Killers

(Un-released Track, Recorded Live)

LYRICS:

Matthew has got, a big idea

And he's gonna take it out on me

Matthew has got, a big idea

And he's gonna take it out on me

Matthew is small

But his heart is bigger

Than the cover of a magazine

Oh, Matthew has got, a big idea

And he's gonna take it out on me

If his idea is good

He's been listening to, the radio...

If his idea is good

He's been listening, to me...

But I'll walk past your goodbyes

On a stereo of lies

Closer my love, it's all, or nothing

But your gonna let me know its true

Come, closer my love, it's all, or nothing

But it's never gonna be with you

Matthew is small

But his heart, is bigger

Than the cover of a magazine

Oh, Matthew has got, a big idea

And he's gonna take it out, on me

If his idea is good

He's been listening to, the radio...

If his idea is good

He's been listening, to me

I won't ask for your, goodbyes

Cos you won't be satisfied

And don't hold me for a crime

On the stereo of lies

Matthew's got a wife now

Matthew's got a wife now

Matthew's got a wife now

Matthew's got a wife now

If his idea is good

He's been listening, to the radio...

If his idea is good

He's been listening, to me...

If his idea is good

He's been listening, to me...

On the stereo of lies

On the stereo of lies

It's the stereo of lies...

Poor Matt Norcross, he didn't deserve this. But its a great song, I wish a higher quality version existed. They must have reconciled because the Mr. Brightside Demo was eventually released with Direct Hits.

@Briiiightside i think that's what i meant to say. :) it's confirmed in the "almost famous" article las vegas weekly ran last year. matt norcross is his full name, and i'm pretty sure they talked about the stereo of lies thing, and the band and the label initially wanting to put a demo version of mr. brightside on the limited edition of hot fuss, but matt and the killers reps couldn't come to a deal, and then brandon said matt claimed he wrote mr. b, but i'm sure you already know all this.

@ccbc23 where can i find this biography @? i need to read all this!

actually, i just went back and re-read that part in a destiny is calling me, and it mentions buss bradley as the former drummer. buss was then let go when ronnie listened to the killers at a club, and decided to want to join the band. since brandon and dave knew that ronnie was much more experienced and talented than buss, they said goodbye to buss, and welcomed ronnie. so, perhaps, matthew was the bassist? according to the book, the old bassist was a hip, burly looking black guy.

@mike2223312 yup, you're exactly right. i wanted to add that on the to end of my comment, i just ran outta room. just curious, was he on the early, early demos of somebody told me, the few versions of mr. brightside, or was he on demos such as desperate, waiting for love, replaceable? do you happen to know?

@shawettyballs24 you're right about the manager suing them. however, this song isn't about the manager. they didn't write a song about the manager suing them. the manager sued them in 2005. about the same time, yes, but not correct. in the unofficial biography of the killers, a destiny is calling me, it mentions that they wrote 'stereo of lies' about matthew, the ex-drummer, who sued the band because he claimed that he wrote mr. brightside. matthew lost the case, as brandon and dave wrote it.

is there any chance someone could send me the mp3 link for this? i cant seem to find it :(

um, no, i'm pretty sure this is about the manager they had named Matthew that tried to take credit for Mr. Brightside (that he wrote it and verything) and they had a huge lawsuit about it... they could never release it because of the lawsuit.

so matthew is the drummer on desperate, replaceable, waiting for love, etc?

I wish there was a better quality of this!

Tehn00busters

Yes, because it's about their old band member Matthew, who was with Dave and Brandon before Mark and Ronnie, & it's not exactly a positive song about him, is it?

anyone find a better quality version>? why is it so cfrackly?

mike2223312

he was the drummer prior to hot fuss when the band sent in demos. when hot fuss was released ronnie was the drummer and matthew got the bright idea to say since he was in the band before he wrote mr brightside and got no credit for it (he lost his claim because it was proven he did not write it)

I wonder what their new abum will be called? I'm thinking 'dust mites'. :P

matthew was the drummer of the killers before ronnie. he was fired and tried to sue them over the rights to mr. brightside. he lost and they wrote this about him and they refuse to record it because i guess they dont want to slap him in the face and bring it all back up again. because he might try to sue them because the song is about him lol
