The Jam - War (Version 1). This version is taken from the 'Just Who Is The 5 O'Clock Hero?' single. For some reason this version was omitted from bothe the 'Direction, Reaction, Creation' and 'Singles 1980-1982' box sets and has never been officially released on cd.
This is far better than the version that was released on the 'Beat Surrender' single.

A longer version of this recording is now available on the Super Deluxe Edition" of "The Gift" that came out at the end of 2012. I'm sure they did it by mistake but for once it's a good mistake :)12 years ago

@TheWorldofgood No problem. Thanks for leaving a comment. There were some 7"s which included this and some that didn't, I've got both. Strange that it wasn't on the box set. They should have put the tracks frm the 'Town Called Malice/Precious' 12" on ther, too. I think The Jam are the only act to chart with 2 singles which were only available on import, 'That's Entertainment' and 'Just Who Is The 5 o' Clock Hero'. This version of 'War' is great.14 years ago
