The Fun Doctor
Every teenager who knew their stuff wanted to be Paul Weller in the early 80's. The music was so macho and aggressive. It meant a LOT at the time.

I can actually remember watching this at the time. It all looked so understated. Just another performance by another band. Yet there was something fantastic going on here. As the years go by, you realise this was very very special.

I'm sticking my nads on the block here and I'm going to say that this show was the first time Weller took notice of Joy Division and he liked what he heard. I would say that Joy Division, Wire and Gang Of Four all influenced the spiky sparseness of Sound Affects that followed a year later. And yes I know Revolver was a major influence too but I just don't get the journos saying that the album was full of funky basslines! Correct me if i'm wrong and I'll buy you a can of Tizer.

One of their best 'When your Young' by the Jam. Lead singer/guitarist Paul Weller comes from Woking.

So much from that era just hasn't stood the test of time and this stunning performance shows why.99% of punk and related styles lacked the Jam's commitment, song writing verve, musical textures and powerhouse live presentation. To coin a well-worn cliche, "they meant it, maaaaaaaaaaaan"

The best 3 piece band ever. Nirvana and Green Day a go at it but nope sorry, The Jam are still number 1.
