Like how the band plays the exit with "When You Walk Into the room" by Jackie DeShannon.

Saw them open for Emmylou Harris in Madison Wi in the 90s. The crowd hated it because they could not understand one word Karin was singing. Took me awhile to get into IM, but once I started appreciating Karin's simple yet profound songwriting, I realize she is sometimes singing in the language of Angels.

Nice to see I'm not alone in feeling like the IM has lost their spark.

I consider their third album, Glow, to be their magnum opus. Same thing with 10,000 Maniacs - love Hope Chest and The Wishing Chair, but In My Tribe is a desert island CD for me! LOVE producer Peter Asher - Peter and Gordon - A World Without Love, producing Chantal Kreviazuk's Under These Rocks and Stones, Aselin Debison et al. Gracias por la musica!

I disagree with all you guys knocking on their music post-1995. I think they really came into their own sound. This music (first two records) is dated. It's great songwriting, but the intimacy present on all albums post-1995 cannot be ignored. It may be softer, it may be more gentle, but it still has plenty of the melancholy/honesty/melodies that made them so great in the first place. When bands evolve, it's not necessarily a bad thing. In IM's case, it's some of their best work.

I still feel and hope that they will can the current drivel they've been (slowly) churning out, and get back to something that rocks. What's funny is that at Lancaster Catholic, where they began, they used to do Led Zep covers! Lots of talent, wasted currently. I think they are still capable, but do they want to do anything differently? Can't be fun selling 200 copies, when you used to do 10s of 1000s.

The first two albums were produced by Larry Klein, then Joni Mitchell's husband. They are complex, and take full advantage of all the band's talents. After Glow, their third, I started feeling what you are discussing now, that they are disappearing into the music. Losing/mis- and under-utilizing their drummer, Steve Brown was a poor decision. Don is a good guitarist, but a poor producer. I have about 9 of their records, but am done. After 1-2 good songs per album, not worth it anymore.

Amazing performance. If only Will Lee wasn't in Bart Simpson please-look-at-me mode...

The latest album's first track finally was a little more expansive musically, but then it retreated back into its box. I agree that the first two albums can't be beat, Larry Klein really brought out the rhythm and atmospherics in the band.
