Flike

I prefer the slower, more melancholy pace of the Poco version.

Blymy....you are right, a Paul Cotton tune played here by Paul Cotton and Kal David (Illinois Speed Press). I was fortunate(?) to "discover" them as they played their last gig live at the Fillmore East...forget who they were opening for...was deeply moved by the authenticity of their presence on stage....still remember "Feeling Sadly Out of Place" and "P.N.S. When You Come Around". Naturally delighted when Paul teamed up with Poco...hall of fame tunes followed. Thanks to netjukebox for the upload.

THIS is also a ballad.

The vocals are a lot tighter on the Poco version, but this is the original version and it's the best.

Yes, it was. Poco's version is a ballad.

Am I wrong ? Wasn't this Paul Cottons song, who then took it with him to Poco? Help please, lost in a sea of great music long ago from the 70's

Had this, and about 700 vinyls that were ripped off by a roomie - ugh that sob - and eventually got another copy (vinyl) on Ebay. Still a favorite after 40 some years. Lately revisiting my Phil Ochs albums...had forgotten what a great topical songwriter (and singer) he was....All the news that's fit to sing & There but for fortune along with some of his later work when he went to A & M Records...The War is Over his greatest hits (on the A & M lable) Check him out for a flashback.

To all of ya oldsters out there. Was this not one of the best songs from back then? We may not have solved all of the World's problems..but we sure had the love and spirit.

@SkyeSpiral Skye, I bought the album when I was in the A.F. back during the Vietnam debacle. This is without doubt THE best version. I still have the album and it is one of my greatest treasures. Peace friend!

Prefer this rendition to that done by Poco after Paul Cotton joined them

I've been waiting a LONG time for someone to post this version. Poco's version was good, but this was great! Thanks, GREAT post!
