This was a very big record back in 1965 here in OKC on our local top 40 radio station's weekly survey. Modern records was the label. Good Post.Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA

On this day in 1965 {April 24th} Ike & Tina Turner with the Ikettes performed "A Fool In Love" on the syndicated TV program 'Hollywood A Go-Go'...Five years earlier on August 29th, 1960 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #87; and on October 17th it peaked at #27 {for 1 week} and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100...It reached #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart...On the same show the Ikettes performed their current hit record, "Peaches 'N' Cream", and at the time was in its 2nd week at position #36 {which was also its peak position on the Top 100}Over the years fifty one different female singers have been members of the Ikettes...

The Ikettes were a very fluid group the line up changed consistently. P.P. Arnold was an Ikette for a while but left for a career in the u.k. Vanetta Fields had a career in australia. The name Ikettes belonged to Ike Turner. 3 ex-Ikettes formed a group called the Mirettes who had hits with "In the midnight hour" and "To love somebody". Magic stuff. I also love the Velvelettes like Andraste Reminiec, The opposite of the Ikettes would have been Bananarama!

When they weren't singing behind Ike and Tina Tuner, The Ikettes released their own singles. Despite a shifting line-up - there have been over 45 different Ikettes - this rowdy cut became a hit. Unlike their more ladylike contemporaries, The Ikettes mixed rock'n'roll rawness and Tina's brawling blues style into their act.

I know very very sad, the potential wasted., someone said in another post, that the Ikettes, were more requested than the Beatles on some show I forget, people who want to control things always end up ruining it!

OMG! Thanks for this upload and the trip back to a time when Rachel, Sherry and I would sing in to whatever was handy for our girl-group as we could imagine our lives being that "bowl of cherries". Loved this song and that time with my friends as being the happiest time. Ah escapism happens so infrequently when you get older...( we were really good too)

On this date in 1965 {May 1st} the Ikettes performed "Peaches 'n' Cream" and "I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song)" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Three years earlier on January 13, 1962 "I'm Blue" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #19 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... Also in 1962 on March 13th "Peaches 'n' Cream" made the Top 100, it reached #38 and in the Top 100 for 8 weeks... R.I.P. Mr. Clark...
