Much of the best music in the late 70s and the 80s was a push-back/warning about the rather selfish direction society & politics had taken, especially in the USA, Canada, and the UK. In all three of those nations, politicians regularly vilified the poor, homeless, single parents, etc., promoted insecurity & fear, and celebrated avarice & greed. Once society had finished drinking their koolaid, large cuts were made to health care, social assistance, disability income, education, and other services that benefited the lowest classes & the working class. In response, these sorts of songs did much to legitimize the efforts of many people to fight the increasing individualism, judgementalism, and materialism during that time, and eventually people began to look at the needs of the poor, unemployed, and vulnerable more seriously.Obviously there are parallels to the trends in this decade, especially in the USA. However, this time around, virtually all television & radio is controlled by corporate interests, so these sorts of 'wakeup!' or 'protest' tunes are rarely heard in the mainstream media. This is something that should have us all worried!Ok...rant over.... :)

I saw The Hooters live in August 1989 at Great Woods Ampitheatre in Massachusetts. They were touring in support of their Zig Zag LP and were the opening act for Stevie Nicks who was touring for her The Other Side Of The Mirror LP. They performed with so much energy-they didn't act like rock stars at all. I love these guys. Best concert I have ever seen. I will never forget it.

after listening to this song i realized how lucky i really am, i mean, i got a house, computer, food at the table, these guys have like nothing, so i started a found, by saving money to the homeless in sweden, and give them a warm place to stay, new clothes and food at christmas, please you guys should do the same
