Johnnie Taylor had success as a soul singer in the 60s and 70s. Here he is in the mid 50s as a teenage gospel singer.

About Taylor's voice "cracking", that was no crack, that is called a break in the voice. Its different. A break is where the voice naturally reaches the limits in a given range and in my opinion the break in this recording is just right. Cracks are more apt to be caused by nervousness or inexperience. There is NOTHING wrong with this performance. If there is a crack it was put there by Jesus on purpose. No, I never did hear Sam Cooke break or crack.

@141Jessy This is a young Johnnie Taylor (very young like 16) and he was HAND PICKED by Sam himself to replace him in this group....and then in the soul stirrers as well. As Johnnie matured (in the soul stirrers) I assure you...you heard no more cracking.
