Jungleland...what a dump that was. Glad it's closed for the animals sake but it was fun going to watch them film these shows so often. I was totally in love with Paul, the drummer, when I was 14-15 :)

Just goes to show: a great song is a GREAT SONG! Great driving drumbeat that propels the guitars into garage rock heaven! The Hardtimes do it justice!

Song first recorded in 1962 by New Orleans singer Benny Spellman. Revived during British invasion era by the Hollies, Rolling Stones & became a rock standard. Hard Times version from late 1966.

The singer is definitely Rudy Romero. How do I know? He is my late uncle. I was named after him. He did die in July of 1982 at the young age of 34 in an auto accident in Los Angeles. Drugs and alcohol played a huge part in his death like many others. He dated a Playboy centerfold in 1971 and was featured in Playboy Magazine. He was and is truely missed and was joined in Heaven by his parents in 2011. He was a huge baseball fan and is buried at El Camino Mortuary in San Diego next to his parents.

It was never released as a single by The Rolling Stones. It was released as part of the lp "Got Live If You Want". But...it wasn't a live track. It was recorded by the Stones back in the fall of 1963. They decided to add some screaming to the track and put it on the live lp. That version was played in LA and went to Number 1 on September 10,1966 on KRLA. It was also a top three hit in Sacremento in Sept. '66. This is how the Hardtimes would have heard it and decided to record it themselves.

This track is really good. I love this kind of raw and honest garage rock from the 60s. My hobby is to rediscover all those bands that didn´t "broke through". It´s a fantastic musical treasure. Listen for example to The Golliwogs (Tell me) and of course THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Really f.....g good with a bloody driving beat.
