I went to prom with one of my best friends last year and we has a blast. We then went to his friends after party and this song came on. He did a dance called the "sneaky sabby" made up by us haha and we could never find the song. But today I was in H&M and the song came on and I was happy. It took a year and a half to find it! Investigation One: Brainstorming.Ironically, it seems to me that the main barrier to creativity is also what should be allowing us to be more creative: social technology. Though we should be using social networking, creative publication tools, and mobile technologies to connect and collaborate with with each other, instead these tools tend to isolate us and kill creativity. I find as a librarian that students aren't as inclined to inquire, explore, and browse for information because they are used to a quick answer. Google delivers instant answers right at our fingertips, so students don't take the time to think through a problem. I also find that students are afraid to think outside of the box. They want the teacher to tell them exactly what they are supposed to do to get the grade.When I observe students' disengagement and lack of curiosity, I always think of this song by the Features. It's a problem that I have too: sitting right next to someone as we both scroll through updates on our phones, seeing the world through the lens of my camera rather than simply enjoying the moment. I am constantly working towards being more conscious of the world around me, stepping into it and making it my own, and using technology to create new things, rather than allowing it to control me.
