Love this band. Saw them live a couple of years ago at a gothic festival and was instantly hooked.

As it turns out, your act is playing on the same day that we have our regular annual NYE Gothic event, facebook.com/events/457620934272957/ ...so I will not be able to take up your offer. However, if you would like to come to our function after your show, I'd be happy to extend comp drinks to your band.

I just saw this videoclip and was intriged by the conversationand felt obliged to answer since i wrote this song. Im all in favour of free opinion so it´s ok to hate it. But i must reasure you that you might think this it's hipster, that'st just as far from the truth possibly. The "hipstermovement" for me is a coverdless bunch of people, to insecure to have their heart in one place and therefor try to adapt whats cool at the moment. This is just a song about and old girlfriend. Stefan, X-Boy.

It's just their sound and following is part of a hipster movement. I can say that without malice towards hipsters or the band, simply because it's true. It's not purely about disliking them.

Well, by regular conversation, I mean that the term gets used and understood not only in everyday conversations, but also that it is used in places like specialty record stores & music catalogs as a category. Let's not forget that only some few years ago, "Post Punk", was not used in any of those places, nor was it ever used on music television throughout the time that most of the bands that are now labelled as "Post Punk" were at their height of fame.

And for the record, I don't think Exploding Boy is all that good (although I do like this one song). I just think if you are going to criticize something, don't generalize :)

As the Rolling Stone reference shows, the term has been used for a long time. By "regular conversation" I guess you mean it's become a more common term, but that simply reflects it's a genre that has regained some popularity. By comparison, I don't hear "Free Style" or "New Beat" that often, but that doesn't mean that music doesn't exist. You can choose to call stuff you don't like "hipster" but fact is some hipsters will like bands like Vendemmian too, but it's ok to still like the band.

Sounds Magazine is not "regular conversation". Sounds hardly sold any magazines back then (and not too many later either) and having a mention somewhere is not the same thing as being a household word. btw, I know the people that made Sounds Magazine personally. I worked with 2 of them on club nights in NYC. Combinations of words are/were used by writers to make things less dull. It doesn't make it a genre or repeated by the public.

Wrong: The term "post punk" was used in 1977 by Sounds to describe Siouxsie and the Banshees.[2] In 1980 critic Greil Marcus referred to "Britain's postpunk pop avant-garde" in a 24 July Rolling Stone article. He applied the phrase to such bands as Gang of Four, The Raincoats and Essential Logic, which he wrote were "sparked by a tension, humour and sense of paradox plainly unique in present day pop music."[3]

Spend less time worrying about if a song is hipster or not and listen to music for what it is. Post punk has been around for around 30 years btw.
