The Dukes of Stratosphear was a pseudonym used by the British rock band XTC in the mid to late 1980s, concurrently with XTC's continued musical activities. The project was intended as a homage to 1960s pop and psychedelic music by groups such as The Beatles, The Byrds, The Kinks, The Zombies, The Beach Boys, The Small Faces, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd and The Pretty Things.[

Funny thing is, I believe XTC essentially ran it's course. I don't like the last couple of albums, so if they never reunite, which is very likely, I won't care. But I'd walk 500 miles and pay $500 to see a Dukes reunion!13 years ago

Have to agree. I have this album from back then and was lucky enough to see XTC live. They are one of the few bands ever to actually go on strike, due to the miser Branson keeping them to the original deal they signed with him despite making loads of money for him before he became Blofeld! (world domination joke) Critics always excited by release of a new xtc project, but they were always in the wings bar a few singles. Top guys too, Mr Partridge's sence of humour is legendary!13 years ago

the dukes of stratosphear, especially with the state of things today, are a VERY important group, on completely separate terms (if that's even possible) from XTC. hearing "your gold dress" now, i am still stunned by its first verse-to-chorus transition. this song, one of the better ones on the EP, is waaaaaaay overlooked. it's a treasure to some people, but deserves to be a standard for a wider audience.13 years ago
