The thought of a "One of us is the killer" fan listening to this in repulsion makes me insanely happy.

Agreed. But metal is a catch all phrase in this case, as there are a bazillion sub genres. There should at least be no doubt they ended up in the evolving metal scene. I remember the stories about them playing their first few metal festivals, and the people there having no idea what to expect because of the way they looked, but then being blown away. The point being, I guess, they were on the cusp of a sound that had never been heard by many before.

Antidisestablishmentarianism

came from the hardcore scene, not metal.

I have to disagree with you. Sure, the band will NEVER harken back to the sound of Under the Running Board and Calculating Infinity. However, they have evolved towards something interesting afterwards.

I wasn't implying that at all. I was listing them as 2 genres I was into at the time. My bad

I was 17 in 2002 and my then-girlfriends good friend let me borrow some CD's to try to broaden my musical taste. I was really into pop-punk/screamo at the time and I will never, ever forget when I put this EP in and this song came on in my car. I pinpoint it as a definitive moment of change. I ended up going to college for music/audio production 2 years later, really started to spend time learning my instruments, and my musical taste blew open. I attribute much of that to this song :).

This song broke my brain the first time I heard it. This was a first in metal. Nothing had ever sounded like this before. Deadguy was probably the closest thing, but Dillinger upped the ante in just about every respect. I actually heard about Dillinger in the late 90s because a reviewer referred to them as "Deadguy at 100mph". Too good.

Sad seeing how closed minded some people are... You know it gets boring if a band stays the same way and makes the same album over and over for 15 years, Dillinger of today shows how artistic and talented they can be while still being extremely aggressive just as much as the old stuff.
