This isn't their song (not entirely). It's an old folk song, recently used in the movie Inside Llewyn Davis.

This is an old traditional song, set in Arkansas, but maybe with roots back in Ireland or Britain. There are many versions (including the Van Ronk one) and some mention Cape Girardeau, Mo., the state of Arkansas, and Ft. Smith, home of the famous "Hanging Judge Parker" and the gallows at the old fort.

At least 2 songs named "Hang Me, Oh Hang Me". One by Dave Van Ronk, the other by The Deep Dark Woods. Some lyrics are identical. Van Ronk's is probably older. Since DD Woods is from Canada, it probably refers to Fort Smith, Northwest Territories. The album notes say that the song draws inspiration from the long, depressing Saskatoon winter.
