I don't compare every singer to another. I just enjoy the great records the make. There are and have been many very excellent singers. But it takes a little of everything coming together to produce great recordings. Don't know why so many have to compare and argue all the time as if there can only be 1 great singer? There are many great singers who made great recordings and I'm glad I can appreciate them all. This was way before my time-----still I can appreciate it and the work of others fine singers too.

They should come back, but it is a shame, who knows where they are, and if they are alive. Love that time of my life

@MROSEN62 I agree--while Aretha was a great singer in her prime, with perhaps the best chops, her tone didn't grab me like some others' voice qualities do, like Arlene's on Maybe, and Maxine Brown's on All In My Mind....

OHHHHFF.... STUNNING. I wish they could sing a soundtrack for my conscience.

Arlene had one of the greatest R&B voices of all time ... Aretha, eat your heart out.

Out of all the renditions that I've heard, this one by Arlene & The Chantels is by far the most melodic and sensual of them all! Thanx....good post.
