Off Younger Than Yesterday (1967).

Crimson flames tied through my ears

Throwin' high and mighty traps

Countless fire and flaming road

Using ideas as my maps

"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I

Proud 'neath heated brow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,

I'm younger than that now.

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth

"Rip down all hate," I screamed

Lies that life is black and white

Spoke from my skull. I dreamed

Romantic flanks of musketeers

Foundation deep, somehow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,

I'm younger than that now.

In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand

At the mongrel dogs who teach

Fearing not I'd become my enemy

In the instant that I preach

My pathway led by confusion boats

Mutiny from stern to bow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,

I'm younger than that now.

Ah, but I was so much older then,

I'm younger than that now

My guard stood hard when abstract threats

Too noble to neglect

Deceived me into thinking

I had something to protect

Good and bad, I define these terms

Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.

Ah, but I was so much older then,

I'm younger than that now.

Is McGuinn a bible-thumper now?

Decent size hit by the Byrds: it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in April 1967 and it peaked at #30. Very much in line with their folk-rock style.

My Back Pages is a splendid remake of Bob Dylans 1964 original acoustic version. The Byrds re-recorded this classic on electric guitars, bass, organ, drums & tambourine for a great over the top version set against a slightly echoed back beat. Although the Byrds version of My Back Pages is considerably shorter in time than Bob Dylans version it none the less leaps out at you through cranked up amplifiers.

One of Dylan's best songs, and this version is pure cream.

Gorgeous harmonies. See what talent actually is vs. that crap they call rap. Ooops! That's not politically correct is it?
