When trying to describe this song, you realize how odd it is that the words "Insane, brutal, abrasive, hilarious and beautiful" all apply to this one tune.

P.S....I got JUNKYARD shortly after it came out, on a lark. I was 17. After that, punk, hardcore, "alternative rock" and all that s**t went right out the bloody window. Thanks, cats, for opening my ears...they're wide open to this day.

I don't know too many people who claim Prince to be such an innovator...at least not like Rowland...and don't doubt that the Purple One didn't hear this...I lived in IOWA USA at the time and I found ALL the Birthday Party records. RSH's sound still rings true...

1 fuckin' take, thats all it took him, switching from pedal to pedal, you fucking genius! to all guitarrist, if you want to try out this rowland sound (though is never gonna be the same) get 2 distorcion pedals at same time it creates instant feedback, a fender twin reverb or vox, crack way up the reverb and a Jaguar or Jazzmaster just for the lower strings in the tremolo and have a blast.

This song was released in 1980... in listening to the first minute or so (esp between the :30-:48 marks), you can hear where Prince got his inspiration for the feedback-laced intro to the song "Computer Blue", and also in the crossover fade between the songs "Computer Blue" and "Darling Nikki" on the album "Purple Rain" (released 4 years after this song) -- it's pretty unmistakable.

John Lennon was a better violinist than Robert Cappa! Muhammed Ali was a better boxer than Cassius Clay! And Cassius Clay was a better boxer than Muhammed Ali! The Smiths and the Birthday Party were two great bands in their very own way. Was reg ich mich eigentlich überhaupt so auf? Thx for the upload, i need to find my copy that is buried in the basement.
