That is extremely cool, heard it on radio 2 this morning and looked it up, check out the eliminators & the blue stingray's too. I can play walk don't run, its surfed up by the ventures I suppose. The original by Johnny Smith is a pretty good jazz tune. Look it up peeps. Cheers for this, just gotta put my strat back together...

Used to hear the Bel Airs at the local Battle of the Bands around Santa Monica and South Bay areas of Los Angeles in those early days of the surf guitar sound getting going.

On Dec. 4, 1959, "Torquay" by the Fireballs was #1 on KRLA, the mighty 1110 and that was the father tune for all the surf sounds that followed. One of the great memory songs of my senior year at Torrance HS.

Written entirely by a 14-year-old Paul Johnson circa 1960, so said Eddie Bertrand.

Not really dead. Very under the radar but it has a healthy underground scene going and has for awhile. Everything from retro traditional to being mixed with punk rock, garage rock, psychedelic, lounge, you name it. I can name you tons of instrumental surf bands that pack the venues they play at, and often people under 30 making the majority of the audience.
