OK, true story. Lennon made off with a harmonica at a stop on the journey to Hamburg by Dormobile in 1961 with Alan Williams as manager, and supposedly spent every last pfennig he had on a Ricky from a German store. This of course left John with zip money and stuck with borrowing until they got some more cash. Most of the time his diet consisted of cigarettes, cornflakes, preludin (a type of slimming drug akin to Dodos or Speed) and beer.

there can be no doubt the beatles got their break because of connections with middle class contacts (Brian E and George M). They would not have happened otherwise. I am not saying they are not the most talented band in the world (because in my opinion they are), but working class hero vibe is rubbish. Once you get your platform great but you have to be very lucky.

Paul McCartney did plays drums on a few songs. Twice were because Ringo left for two weeks and he decided to step in as the drummer for Back in the U.S.S.R. and Dear Prudence. He drummed on Martha My Dear and Why Don't we do it on the Road because he did those songs on his own during the end of the Beatles when there was a lot of tension.

pete best was a bar drummer! ringo was so much better! can you imagine the later albums with best? not me. and call me ignorant, but, what did "his lord god" andy white do besides play on a beatle tune or two??? sorry.
