I wondered why Brian looks so unhappy at the beginning of this clip until I read the Rolling Stone magazine article The Healing of Brother Brian. Just before the cameras rolled, Brian got into it with the guy Eugene Landy had watching him because Brian wanted to eat and Landy's dude wouldn't let him. The whole situation seemed kind of sad and messed up.

True points but never use that book as a citation for reliable information. Brian himself has testified he did not write nor see the final manuscript.

Perhaps reading Brian's book "Wouldn't it be nice" would help everyone to understand. Brian had spent a lot of his money on drugs and to appear with the band, who were paying for his treatment, also gave him revenue. Check it up but I think the rules were that each band member was paid per performance.

It's funny, but, it's kind of sad how he's clowning his father, maybe at the time that was the way Brian dealt with the anger he had towards his father.

Sad to see BW like this. A lot of his more cultic fans totally go ga-ga at "How great BW looks! He's back on top!" but seriously, compare this guy to the guy from 1966 that was in control in the studio, directing dozens of session guys, directing them in how to put together complex pieces of music, arranging vocals, etc. Here you got an out of shape crazy fat man, so out of shape he can't even sing one verse without coughing up a lung.

Yeah, they probably shouldn't have brought him back. It's tough though, some shades of gray on the proper way to handle him. Being rich and famous but fucked up on drugs and mentally ill in the 1970s is different than regular people. Lots of enablers, lots of pressures to perform and produce, and the money to be able to say Fuck You, I ain't fixing myself.

Brian was an absolute basketcase then...I saw the show in Anaheim and you could tell that he was waaaaaay off on Planet Wilson: Population 1 as they trundled him out like some trick pony they'd let out of it's cage. It was sad, heartbreaking and repulsive all at the same time to see Brian stumbling around like a zombie while his "caring" family blathered on about how "Brian Wilson's BACK"...it was beyond obvious that he was in no shape to perform, beyond obvious and downright cruel.
