I'll give you all that you said about Marco's playing. He's amazing, to be sure. I don't know about "better". I don't think Guthrie will simply be remembered. I believe he is every bit as much on his way to god status as Mr. Minneman. They're both amazingly fantastic musicians! Great band. Great music. Touch to beat. Still quite angry with myself for missing them when they rolled through my area.

Sure. But there's actually someone better in there in the band. Marco Minnemann has a sense of music and taste in drums, and can play any style with such perfection, that he simply is in another level than any other drummer. Guthrie is going to be remembered... Marco is already building his legend, and becoming a God in drums.

He was my first choice for DT drummer, but back then I didn't know aristocrats, I only knew him for solo work. Now that I know aristocrats, I'm quite happy that he stayed and that Mangini went to DT. I think both bands are good and performing solidly, so it was an optimization of resources.
