This song turned me onto the book its named after. Which grew my appreciation for the album and the artists behind the anniversary even more!

This was one of my favorite songs many years ago during a particularly messy romantic entanglement in the summer and fall of 2004. I had completely forgotten about it until recently, and listening to it now, at the tail end of yet another messy entanglement with the same woman from all those years ago, I've discovered it again, and it's every bit as beautiful and brutal now as it was then(much like her). Tremendous.

Doesn't matter what label you put on this or what anyone else did under any of the labels you all throw around. This band was great!

actually, no. This has never been nor will ever be emo. Emo "before the hipsters" got to it would mean DC late 80's when emo was still an off shoot of hardcore. So unless its got elements of the hardcore genre then it was never emo. I would call this college alt rock.

What Samuel said. It's all nested subgenre after subgenre. And for the last 100 years, not counting the 12 where it took on a negative connotation (poseur), "hipster" simply meant your wore a uniform to parties. (see: demin jackets, leather jackets, Megadeth Backpatches, etc.)

Actually "hipsters" have been around since the early 50's. The misconception that hipsterism or even emo is a recent thing is common. Scene is really just a silly sub-genre of emo that kinda doesn't contribute to any musical aspects at all, instead it's an emo fashion statement. Although there is some debate as to whether or not "scene" contributed to anything at all.

Technically, it would be emo before the Scene kids got to it. The Hipsters developed after the Scene kids had their year or two of cool and were a flashy semi preppy emo. Hipsters are "vintage" and "retro" versions of that.

One of the Best albums of all time, along with the Killingtons self titled album, and Saves the Days Through being cool. The best the late 90s had to offer.
