I realize that the generation that has grown up with the internet might have different answers to this problem, but as for me, I gave up caring what others thought of my music preferences right after I hit my twenties. Once that happened I was no longer limited to what I could enjoy listening to. Right now I have Acoustic Alchemy, Sade, and the Rippingtons (all 'smooth jazz' artists) playlists next to Tesseract, Periphery, and Textures playlists. Soon you won't even care anymore.

Both vocalists are amazing :) Eric has more techniques at his disposable though. The background is misleading since it's a picture with the old vocalist...might wanna change that :P

Besides having one of the sickest drummers, this group, like TesseracT, has one of the best sounding drum kits I've ever heard, and they know how to use it. That snare, sounds AMAZING. Great pop and tonality. The bass drum and the rest all sound amazing.

It's pointless to argue about genres, Textures can hardly be called any definite genre (which is a sign of GREAT music, in my opinion). But, I don't hear metalcore here.
