Testament - Low - Trail of Tears

See the sun as the day is done

Life is of the broken ones

Some will stray as time will come

Al their lives, the live it well

Red man proud and giving hell

Some stand and shining tall

Can you hear them call?

See the sun as it's setting still

Tears fall from a warrior

Damn those who I feel

Set a trail to the promised land

Mother and child holding hand in hand

Through the snow or through the sands

All across the land...

Full moon's rising from the sky, a warrior's riding

Ride with the wind

So far away, the spirits will guide you

No more sorrow

Don't look back, your freedom will follow

Flying so free

Can't you see... on the trail of tears

Full moon's rising from the sky, a warrior's riding

Ride with the wind

So far away, the spirits will guide you

No more sorrow

Don't look back, your freedom will follow

Flying so free

Can't you see... on the trail of tears

To be honest, this could be my favorite Testament song, as well as album.

My family is German and Choctaw. My Grandmother was born and raised on the rez. The "native people" were no worse off than any other conquered peoples. They were savage and living in the stone age until the Europeans brought them iron arrow heads and knife blades. I don't feel any sympathy for the Native Peoples, they should have formed a greater resistance, rather than all of the tribal war. Unity=strength.

New York, you say? That was the birthplace of the Iroquois confederacy, also known as the 5 nations Iroquois. The Nations that make it up are the Oneida, Mohawk, Seneca, Onandaga, Cayuga. Later on, the Tuscarora from the Carolinas officially made it the 6 nations Iroquois. They were heavily involved in the fighting in the French and Indian war which partially took part in upstate New York. Part of it is mentioned in "Last Of The Mohicans."

Thanks for the info! My great grandmother was telling me about her husband(my great grandfather) who was from a tribe in New York. I'm not sure which tribe though. And yes.. the hollywood stereotypes of Native's aren't the REAL thing!!

Hey there! It was fun getting to know the real people and not the old "feather in the headband" Hollywood Natives that played to the old stereotypes. In the Eastern Woodlands, we had the Algonquin peoples, and the major peoples of that region were the Lenni Lenape. They held lands in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and had relatives all up and down the East Coast, including the Choptank from Maryland, the Narragansett, the Micmac and Penobscot, and many more. New York has the 5 Nations Iroquois.

That's nice man, glad you embrace cultures around you! Too bad that land was sold. Much love from Northern Cali! Native Nation!

This White boy has no problem with the peoples whose voices were first heard in our land. In fact there were powwows that went on twice a year where I lived, but the land was sold and awaiting development so now nothing happens. I have many fond memories of smiling faces and stories of old from storytellers and shirt-wearers alike, and watching traditional and fancy dances alike and admiring the great craftsmanship of some of the artists. No false Hollywood BS at the powwows, just real people!

Native Americans are awesome and friendly people. I dont know why people hate on them, when this is their land. I'm not Native American, but I still accept the fact that I am an "immigrant" living in the land of Native Americans. Pretty much anybody who isnt Native American is an immigrant, even white people, although they wont admit it.

I'm Apache, a south western Native American tribe and i'm so proud of Chuck Billy!! Many of us Natives walk in a trail of tears with our heads down from all the pain our ancestors have endured the moment Europeans came. We are scarred, but with time we will heal! I feel like we are coming up in the world again, i'm so proud makes me wanna cry! Native Nation.. let's stand tall and once again live in peace with mother nature!
