Both stand out from the crowd. Metallica's work all the way through the Black Album kicks ass. It all has a unique feel, just like Testament especially in The Gathering. They both deserve respect.

I haven't heard a meaner Testament album (outside of perhaps Demonic). I wish their newer stuff were this mean.

"No hope of improvement" "1990 onward sucks ass" Umm, scince death magnetic, there is a hope of improvement for them, The black album isnt that bad, and it was made after 1990. God people, Why are there comments about metallica on every single one of these videos?? PEOPLE, IF YOU HATE METALLICA SOOOOO MUCH, SHUT UP ABOUT THEM

It had been said that the greatest Thrash Metal Album is Reign In Blood by Slayer. The drummer of that album is Dave Lombardo. This is the heaviest album of Testament, and who is the drummer? Dave Lombardo! With Dave Lombardo comes great metal!

That's one hell of a violent username you got there, bud. Testament seems second-class b/c they never went platinum. They chose to make the Souls of Black album instead of touring with Judas Priest and Megadeth. Souls of Black sat on the shelves while Grunge albums were flying off the shelves and Testament lost its momentum commercially. Band members left for better opportunities, and Testament now had to knuckle drag its way back. Now Dark Roots of Earth is their bestseller =)

I'm trying to one comment at a time!...20 years from now the Gathering will still have many people listening to it..."Master of over-long simple repetitiveness" will just be a curiosity by then...Dave Lombardo vs. Metallicraps version of Ringo Starr = a total massacre by Mr. Lombardo...!

You forgot to say Metallica never made as good a solo part as in this piece.

This album is heavier, and more intense than anything Metallica has done

Let's just make it the Extraordinary Ten. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Destruction, Overkill, Kreator, Annihilator.

Holy mother of God all of Testament's best songs are on this album... D.N.R., Legions of the Dead, Riding the Snake and THIS MASTERPIECE OF METAL.

@faggotmutilator666 My god you're ignorant and stupid, Testament did not invent meaningful lyrics for thrash, pretty sure it was done ages ago (one of those bands that did it before Testament was the band you seem to hate aka Metallica). And off the top of my head Testament released two bad albums (Demonic and Practice What You Preach). Metallica went in a different direction and you know what, Load wasn't that bad, it was different, and different is nice, not repetitive, shitty thrash.

I don't get Anthrax haters. Anthrax is good. Listen to "Among the Living", "Persistence of Time", "State of Euphoria", "Spreading the Disease." There one of the few thrash bands that actually writes lyrics from the heart that are relatable to anybody (metalheads). It's about actually really social problems not the fake bull crap about sucking satans dick and killing people because you can deal with your problems.
