Damn'...to compare songs like this one - which, fortunately, were produced in quite a large amount in that decade - to the, pardon my French, empty, stupid, shallow shit, that started coming out in early 90's, and managed to become even worse until today, is one sad and depressive mental process... Yes it is sort of what you describe,its a strong impact down on me,from both,the music and lyrics .. I love this song and all what it tries to explain..Its my favourite T for Fears song and boy i like them all and roland orzabal's on his own..I find this song very powerful and you mention you've got depression(funny cause i've got depression too) and might be there the reason why we both feel the same when listen to it...Its even more weird and u might think im joking but im not-you also mentioned a Colin Hay's song which has same impact on you..funny I have the same but with Colin Hay's song entitled Overkill ..
