[I love the appearance of an ad saying REMOVE EYE BAGS halfway down the "up next " column with this! An algorithm for Keith?!]This number seems soulless to me. I grew up (or failed to grow up) listening first to friends' parents' "High Tide & Green Grass" as a pre-teen, to my older sister's Sticky Fingers at age 10/11 -(that was 1973!) - then bought my own Exile & all further Stones, till Punk claimed me. Bored or embarrassed by most punk now, but still love the Stones, up to Some Girls (and Lou R's Transformer - another childhood constant, the PERFECT, smart naughty, pop record)..what DID happen to the Stones? They'd always done stone-cold, sneery, cynical, even menacing - but for about their first 15 years that was leavened with some real tenderness, melancholy (Wild Horses, Sway, No Expectations, Ruby Tuesday...) even vulnerability. And invention! (the better bits of Satanic Majesties are (to me) FAR more interesting than 90% of tinny, kitsch Sgt. Pepper's!) But by1980 all that had evaporated, leaving just ego & cynicism, seems to me. Can't blame Ron Wood. For some reason Keith, who by all accounts (eg Marianne's) was a shy & tender man, needed to start posing as a "gangster", "packing a piece.."(cringe.. - such bollocks). The Stones' old drug-dealer Joe South describes how terrified Keith was on first meeting him and his "predatory" colleagues..which is normal & endearing. Yer actual gangsters - i.e. psychopathic bullies, & I've met a couple, alas - would eat little muso Keith for brek..ah well. Pity.

The only thing that rocks harder and looser is their live performance of this on SNL

this song is proof that the Stones could have released a GREAT album in the second half of the '80s

I didn't mention that Keith himself was initially a bit miffed at people using Richards rather than Richard, but he did overall accept it,he must have known that many people would naturally call him Richards, but I've never call him Keith Richard,I've always had the wear with all and respect

The only thing that can make this great rock song better would be Mick Jagger on lead vocals.
