The split of Japan was caused by declaring David ''the most beautiful man in the world'',which he didn't like)

I'd probably be a better guitarist if I didn't set my standards so impossibly high. Fripp would be one of those standards. I'm forever grateful for my friend who put me onto the album "The First Day", which I can't believe is going to be 20 years old next year. :-/Sylvian / Fripp - Jean The Birdman

Thanks for putting this up! The CD version has been a favorite for many years.

@atrios28 He doesn't look in this vid like he does on the CD. And neither look like he did with Japan. Quite simply, I really don't know what David Sylvian truly looks like.

not everything he did with Fripp was good, but this is definitely one of the better songs

Sylvian dislikes everything he did with Japan aside from Ghosts, Otherside of Life, and Nightporter- all downbeat, slow but good songs. His tastes have changed a lot since the 80s. I'm a huge Japan fan but I find most of his solo stuff a bore, this song is one of his highlights though.

Why doesen't Sylvian make more upbeat songs like this, no one's asking him to sell out but I would of liked more of his solo stuff to be like red guitar or ink in the well, alot of his other stuff is a bit pretentous. There's nothing commercial about writing proper songs, tin drum was experimental but it still had some amazing songs on it.
