The sad thing, Susanna was much more often on my mind as I was on hers.

This goes back a long way but I believe Ian and Sylvia with The Great Speckled Bird sang this in an appearance at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1967 or there abouts. This was Sylvia's song but I must say that I really like Suzanna's version too.

As much as I like Susanna, I'm not so sure she sounds good with this We Five cover. Her voice sounded good but her pitch seemed way off.

You can tell that Ms. Hoffs loves these 1960s songs by her respectful and nuanced performances. But, this version turns the energy up just a notch, which is kind of invigorating.

Lovely song by a very lovely Jewish girl.

Sounds like she's in too low a key and struggles with the first verses.

Not bad, not bad at all. Well done Susanna.

I like this version. But I'll ruin this song for some of you. "I've got wounds to bind..." "I gotta ramble, I gotta move on, I gotta walk away my blues..." Sounds like an abusive relationship. Happy melody, painful words. See "Bad Moon Rising"

for anyone interested in the song, and I like the original *and* most covers, including Sylvia's later rerecording on one of her solo records (where it's easier to hear the actual melody that she wrote, uncomplicated by the harmony vocal that she sang under Ian's lead, which provided a new lead line for most of the subsequent covers, following Bev's vocal with the We Five) look up Nancy Griffith's book about her two albums of covers, including a discussion of this song, and its complexity.
