I just noticed that Carly Simon's accent is soft from New England compared to the Hoffs which is a little bit more 'twangy'. She is so good-looking that it is hard for a man to remain objective about her singing talents.

The performance is technically proficient but without any of the heartfelt yearning of the original. I see Carly Simon's "No Secrets" as a precursor to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" because in both records you can hear various stages of female heartbreak and anger. Google Carly Simon's family life and you will see her parents gave her a lifetime of fodder for her songwriting. They were scandalously unfaithful to each other, both had open affairs while under the same roof. Simon's mother at one point seduced a college student 20 years her junior who had been hired as a tutor for the young Carly.

What's the point of covering a song if you're just going to copy it note for note and the arrangement, too? Without Richard Perry's production chops this version sounds anemic. I'm a big fan of Hoffs' voice, but it lacks the balls that Carly brought to this song. I can hear Hoffs covering more intimate Carly songs to better effect.
