Mance Lipscomb (April 9. 1895 / January 30. 1976) was born to an ex-slave father from Alabama and a half Native American (Choctaw) mother. Lipscomb spent most of his life working as a tenant farmer in Texas and was "discovered" and recorded by Mack McCormick and Chris Strachwitz in 1960 during the country blues revival. He released many albums of blues, ragtime, Tin Pan Alley and folk music (most of them on Strachwitz' Arhoolie label, singing and accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. He had a fine finger-picking guitar technique, and an expressive voice. Mance was an influential blues singer, guitarist and songster. Born Beau De Glen Lipscomb near Navasota, Texas, he as a youth took the name of 'Mance' from a friend of his oldest brother Charlie ("Mance" being short for emancipation). - Wikipedia.

God Bless the "Arhoolie Label." Learned so much from listening to Rice U: 91.7 FM Houston (KTRUe) and they were true when it came to blasting American folk music. Seemed they always had their facts good and where to find the music. Go KTRU, miss you.

great grandad left one behind, along with a '64 SG I imagine they are a similar age but idk how to date Harmonies..built like a tank man, I actually lost it for about two years without a case and turned up a buddy of mine had it (still no case, and was in no hurry to tell me he had it) still sounds just as good as ol' Mance's

I wish i could go back in time and speak with some of these great musicians. Something just fascinates me about it. I would love to hear them speak and joke around with them. These guys didn't have anything we have today. They just worked and jammed. I appreciate this a lot.
