in the end the musicians have to feed their families somehow. there must be a blend of selling for profit and vocalizing their beliefs together, unless the artist(s) don't care about turning music into a profit.

Your wrong punk is not dead and never will be as long as myself and others who think like me still live because punk is an attitude and a way of life.

As much as I respect Jello Biafra, hasn't Hot Topic already done that?

punk will only die when the artists themselves place commercial sucess over creativity and artistic freedom. mass production in of itself gets the message to more people than otherwise, which is good; it becomes dubious when artists write songs to sell rather than to voice thier beliefs. the label one plays for or the amount of money one makes does not make him or her a sellout, the individuals priorities do this.

So basically punk died when punk bands started signing to Warner Bros, Sony, EMI, Virgin, Columbia, Disney... oh, wait, hang on... whoops! Too late! That was the Ramones, The Clash, The Misfits, The Stooges, The Pistols, The Dead Milkmen and virtually every other punk band that wasn't released on an independent label. Yes, that's correct; the Dead Milkmen were signed to Disney. Jello isn't a dumb guy but he says a lot of retarded shit sometimes.

SO BRAVE. Why don't you just throw Blink 182 and Sum 41 in there as well?
