Tony Benn nationalised the shipyards in 1976 and the union reps went off to South Korea to teach them how we built ships,he said it was the worst political mistake he made in his life, aye, but not as bad a mistake it was for us eh Tony?

Im what some might call...'A Southern Softy' but this is such a lovely touching song, and having paid short visit to Newcastle (The capital of Geordieland) I was so impressed with Newcastle and the outer region,I will certainly come again.

"Homesickness" is a true malady; I once lived in Germany for just over a year in my youth & couldn't believe how much I missed England to the point of real heartache, even though I absolutely loved Germany....it is a strange phenomenon...how all the more poignant then,to be part of far Southern England, yet feel exactly the same for my "home",my "roots" of the North East. To go back on a visit is one thing,to be truly Northern is something deeply-instilled. This is a wonderful video & song. K x

My Family is from shields, and I spend alot of time there. We recently buried my grandad up there, and now whenever I'm up there and walking along the road at the bottom of the cliffs, next too the fish quay I think of this song and it brings tears too my eyes.

Whenever I get nostalgic and homesick I come to your video. I live in Canada with my husband, and when we met, he lived in South Shields and I lived in North Shields, so the Waters of Tyne we between us. We had this song at our wedding. Also the pictures are fantastic to look at. Beautiful!
