Thank you so much for sharing! I love this song! It's such a huge part of my childhood. My mother would play this all the time!

I burrowed a CD of this song from Chicago library, and it was a swing and a woman singing. It was very good.

I like the "Skyliner's / Janet Vogel" sound alike in the background...What a great Goffin / King song! And Steve delivers it so well!

geez, what a lame reframing and recyling of frankie avalon's mega hit "Venus," with the borrowed voicings as well, lol

What I get from this song is that the "rich girl" is trying to have her cake and eat it too; the "poor boy" has no illlusions about that and is rather bitter and sarcastic over the whole thing. Goffen and King had a way of taking musical cliches and turning them on their head, didn't they?

Another great song from Carole King & Gerry Goffin for Steve. It was not the follow-up to "Go Away Little Girl". That was "Don't be Afraid Little Darlin'". "Poor Little Rich Girl" reached #27 on the Billboard charts. Goffin & King also wrote "Walkin' Proud" (#26) and, of course, "Go Away Little Girl" the only #1 hit for Steve. He's second biggest hit (#5) came in 1957 with a cover version of the Buddy Knox #1 hit of "Party Doll". Steve also had three other top 10 hits from 1959 - 1961.

geez I haven't even born but I really like it!

bopava .

It was a hit, but a small one. It was very old fashioned for 1963, and would have been a much bigger hit a couple of years before, but I love it.

Funny how this wasn't a hit, obviously they were going with a similar double voiced sound that had worked in the previously released "Go Away little Girl" ~ sometimes follow up songs work, sometimes they don't - I don't know if this one even charted - but he's certainly a great singer regardless.

God, that 45 brings back great memories. I remember running out to buy it as soon as I heard it on the radio. I already had "Go Away Little Girl" and "Don't Be Afraid Little Darling".
