As I went out one May morning,

One May morning betime,

I met a maid from home had strayed,

Just as the sun did shine

What makes you rise so soon, my dear,

Your journey to pursue?

Your pretty little feet they tread so sweet,

Strike off the morning dew.

I'm going to feed my Father's flock,

His young and tender lambs,

That over hills and over dales

Lie waiting for their dams.

O stay! O stay! you handsome maid,

And rest a moment here,

For there is none but you alone

That I do love so dear.

How gloriously the sun doth shine,

How pleasant is the air;

I'd rather rest on my true love's breast

Than any other where.

For I am thine and thou art mine

No man shall uncomfort thee.

We'll join our hands in wedded bands

And a-married we will be.

You have a lovely voice. I'd love to hear you sing Loreena McKennit's "The Highwayman" It would suit you.

No accompaniment, just how it should be :)

Beautifully sung! There's a tenderness, passion, sweetness, sorrow, joy, and humanness in the songs of those who came before, which is sorely lacking in much modern music. Am grateful that it's still appreciated and performed.

There are plenty of 19th and early 20th century songs in Bengali, whose tunes were inspired by Irish and English folk songs and most Bengalis don't even know or realize this. That should give you an idea about how close music often can be. I find folk music from both Britain and Ireland beautiful because of their simplicity and themes. A young man meeting a woman herding sheep is very similar to the Bengali folk songs of fishermen meeting beautiful maidens on river banks where they fish.

Awesome, cool reply! Don't worry, I don't hate anyone, it was just the name of a band I was in when I was 16. We didn't even write any songs, hah. Someone offered me money because they wanted to buy my youtube name from me, so I now I refuse to change it, haha!

@Stuart Aitken hey mate..its so nice to read about you feelings..you know.. music is the universal language which justifies that we all are equal. all are elements of nature..hearing folk music from various lands also makes me have the same feeling as you do..I am from India.. and folk music from England and the Celtic lands also enchants me..I love them so much..the mysticism involved is amazing..:) by the way I would be really happy to see you you tube name changed peace and love to all!! :)
