Released in November 1978, it was the first single from their second album "Cool For Cats" which was released in March 1979. The lyric and arrangement is slightly different to the album version. I heard this played on the radio the other day and it was described by the DJ as "the Squeeze classic". I wonder how many other singles can be described as "classics" and yet only make 63 in the charts. Coming to think of it, how many singles that made such a lowly chart position can you remember?

I'll never forget. Way back in college I got a free copy of "Cool for Cats" brand new, unopened, from a radio station that had no intention of playing it. Took it home to listen, and thought, holy cow, these guys are great! Still one of my favorite records ever, even though later releases like "Argybargy" and "East Side Story" were probably technically better. I've been a fan ever since.9 years ago

It doesn't matter how low on the charts this landed, this is a fantastic song. My dad popped Cool for Cats on in the car the day I was driving him in for back surgery. He's listened to this album all my life, but for whatever reason it was that day that this song stuck out to me. I love the lyrics, and how the flow of the melody pushes their meaning.10 years ago

Of course it is "mug" not "mum". "Mug" as in fool. He is saying that calling him a "mug" doesn't begin to describe what a fool he has been in getting involved and causing his wife to leave him hence "Mug is not the word". Common expression in the UK.Videos Relacionados
