Similar, but not exact. The lawsuit is bullshit. How many rock songs are rip offs of classical music? How many rappers use others' music as their background. Isn't even the same genre.

Nonsense!I'm not a musician, but I hear a descending chord progression here. "Stairway's" progression is vaguely similar, but an ascending progression. Beyond that, there is no similarity whatsoever.Furthermore, we hear stuff like this all throughout rock 'n roll. There are only so many notes to go around. This is just more conspiracy stuff from the haters who seek to further the lie that Zeppelin somehow sold 300 million records worldwide and turned rock music on its head by smoke and mirrors... Zeppelin was, is and will always be the ultimate rock band.

Sounds more like Masterplan by Oasis than Stairway to Heaven

Pink Floyd's "Is there anybody out there?" Sounds more like it stole this riff than Stairway...

I can hear a general influence in the song and what Page would record a couple years later , but I see quite a bit of Pages genius in the song Stairway to Heaven, and the fact there is no lyrics involved with the song Taurus and an ending without similar guitar riffs means that anyone can hear something and incorporate a shade of it here and there, but not 'steal'. Sorry, don't agree with the plaintiffs.

Anyone who tries to down play this is in denial cause of how much we all love led zeppelin. Truth is, they ripped off a lot of musicians songs, lyric from lyric, and basic chord progressions, then claimed them as they're own. This is definitely a good example given the fact that zep toured with Spirit in the the early 70's and Spirit did perform this song. Zep even covered Spirit songs for a BBC session( I think).

The song stairway to heaven is obviously not the same. Honestly compare them and you'll see. No 2:40 song can really be similar to an 8 minute beauty.

IF YOU LOVE TAURUS BY SPIRIT THEN FUCKIN LISTEN TO IT AND NOT STAIR WAY. IF YOU LOVE FUCKIN WILLE DIXON MORE THEN LED ZEPPELIN THEN GO LISTEN TO FUCKIN WILLE DIXON WHO GIVES A FUCK

I was lucky enough to see Spirit Live, Randy had lost his voice, and nobody else in the group could sing so I got to hear a whole concert of instrumentals. We had a good time anyway, they could play.

So yeah, appreciate the intro to music seminar below, but the question really is, was a substantial part of the song so similar that it was copied rather than an amalgamation of other existing parts, which could be original. For me the facts are that the initial guitar intro to Stairway has a very similar note/chord progression to the "hook" or key melody of Taurus. If I were in the defense camp here I would be looking for similar note/chord progressions that predate Taurus. Otherwise, suck it up and provide some naming rights or some small token. Sad to let this go too far, I don't want to see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page reducing themselves to repeating Vanilla Ice's pathetic differentiation of his hook from Queen/Bowie's classic song Under Pressure. That would be serious sad clown time if I saw that happen.

Led Zeppelin didn't rip you off. This song sucks. Maybe two or three notes strung together sorta kinda sounds like one or two seconds of Stairway to Heaven. You wish it did so you could make some money too. Problem is Stairway is a good song, this one is not. Hey, if I drink enough, I can even think it sounds like MC Hammer. hahahaha
