This is how I spend my time...trying to steal licks from the really good pickers from back in the day. Speedy was a hot commodity for many various acts back in the 50's....one of many great guitarist such as Phil Baugh, Roy Lanham, Eldon Shamblin, Junior Banard, Leon Grizzard, Grady Martin etc...pair this with the great jump blues players such as Tiny Grimes, Pee Wee Crayton, T-Bone and the blues of Freddie King, Earl Hooker, Louis Myers, Eddie Taylor etc...now there's an arsenal of licks that'll set you apart from every Joe Blow or SRV wanna-b...I don't mean to come off as pretentious...it's just that I see so many guitarist looking in the wrong places for inspiration...if only one person is inspired to dig a little, they'll be astounded at what they'll find....

This is in response to Ronald Pirtle. he never went to Nashville with Porter because first of all, he didn't like Nashville music politics, and he was afraid there wouldn't be any good schools for his Down's Syndrome son. He later moved to Nashville and traveled with Leroy Van Dyke, then retired and moved back to Springfield.

Heck, new strings on an old strat set up right gives the same results. Now amps and organs are a different story. SAVE THE WURLITZER ELECTROSTATIC REED ORGANS AND CONN TUBE ORGANS. NEVER NEVER NEVER BUTCHER ONE FOR AN AMP PROJECT! There are plenty of guitar amps and parts to build them aside from the great organs they wil NEVER build again. And no, Hammond organs are not the only great organ! So are Wurlitzer,Gulbransen,Conn,Thomas, and certain Baldwins. -Guitar player 35 years, organ 17 years

P.S. All you guitar pickers who dig this - do check out Robert Normann here on YouTube as well - probably the first guitar player I ever saw (he used to play during the breaks on national TV over here in Norway back in the 60s/early 70s).

I''ve never heard anyone get that clear tone out of guitar like Speedy did. I could tell his guitar playing in a cast of thousands. He taught me so much about music and being an entertainer..........a debt I can never repay. RIP my friend. God bless you.
