I don't think it's fair to outright judge them. Every person has to start on his or her own way no matter how obnoxious they are, right? I mean, some of them might grow out of it and move on, but others might also stay and learn more than just what they know now.

Of course it's annoying because it feel like they are ruining a great thing but I listen to rock, metal AND Specimen, Samedi, Play, etc... and in metal movement there are "fakes" too, teenages who wants to feel different. A muscial and cultural movement will always kinda change through the years. That's bad but I guess it's the way it works and new movements arrives. The best thing to do is follow your mind and don't care about them, they'll give up the thing :)

It's largely a music and fashion based subculture. Other subcultures can share similar aesthetic elements, but they're not goth. I don't get why people who aren't goths care so much that they're not.

....Of course post punk, death rock, gothic rock is where it all started & it should be treasure & celebrated. But surely there can be more types of 'goth' music apart from death rock? I just don't get why some trad Goth reject people other goths because they like metal for example. Metal & death rock originate from totally different things but can have a lot of goth elements to it.... i don't know.. :\

Is being a Goth only about liking a specific genre of music? And if you don't know or enjoy that specific type of music you can't be a Goth?? Because to me Goth is about having that dark mentality, appreciating the dark side of life, embraciing it fully, not being afraid of things like death, not conforming to society's expectation etc

I'm not goth, this is just cool because it wasn't the same old crap in the 80's and I loved it....Old punk rock, doesn't need a tag or name, just cool music...those of you who need to categorize...you are pop music nerds and enjoy your tags...it's just what it is COOL....

@kaatxu no, you're not a "gothie" you are a goth. The ones who deserve to be qualified as "gothies" are the people I just described. I'm just 18, but age doesn't mean too much. Have a wonderful day

@StephiexNightningale I don't mind them. Often times they're the ones who grow out of it and get married, have an office job and live in the suburbs with 2.5 kids and a dog. The traditionalists in goth end up being in their thirties and forties, still dancing to Bauhaus and Siouxsie. It's a part of us, it's a phase for them. Let the kids have their fun, we can just sit back and laugh while they're stuck playing Stepford Wives everyday for the rest of their lives while we play Addams Famiily. ;)
